Software Engineer Stratus VOS

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Stratus VOS / OpenVOS engineer who will work with our SIEM team to extract performance data from the Stratus VOS system and send it to our SIEM team for aggregation, correlation, analysis, and data reporting.

This role requires a deep understanding of the Stratus VOS operating system and is knowledgeable about the data points VOS customers want to track to ensure the overall health of the system.

Note: Applicants must have prior experience working on the Stratus VOS platform. If you do not have prior Stratus VOS platform experience, please do not apply.

Performance data includes, but is not limited to, CPU utilization, User/System Process data, Memory utilization including memory leak detection, Disk busy/utilization, Network utilization, Security information for the VOS system itself such as failed login attempts, etc. The performance data will be gathered in regular, configurable intervals and stored in log files. The SIEM team will parse the log files and ingest the data for downstream SIEM processing and reporting.

This position will develop and support a wide variety of system-level functions and products for the Stratus OpenVOS environment yielding data that will be ingested by the downstream SIEM system.

You will work with a seasoned team of SIEM subject matter experts to create new and improved monitoring and alerting vectors in support of our high-value customers.

Responsibilities:

You will work in C and PL1 to develop OS and supporting infrastructure capabilities pertaining to system performance metrics. You will have the opportunity to delve into a wide range of areas such as POSIX infrastructure functions, LDAP integration, cache management, storage, and network functions, and IPSec just to name a few.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience with VOS, OpenVOS, and command macro languages
  • 8+ years of experience in Unix / Unix Systems with programming experience in PL/1, C, C++ with GCC compilers would be optimal
  • Familiarity with development tools such as Slack, Jira, GitHub, etc. is a plus
  • Some familiarity with SIEM systems such as Splunk, AlienVault, etc., is a major plus
  • Must have OS or middleware development experience
  • Must have a working understanding of OS concepts and how to gather performance data
  • Must have experience working in C and gdb

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required

Note: This is a part-time contractor role requiring 10 to 15 hours a week.

Job Types: Contract, Part-time, Temporary

Salary: $50.00 – $80.00 per hour
